Sneak Peak at 'Harry Potter 5' with New Pictures
The fifth 'Harry Potter' film, 'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix' won't be released until July 13, but NEWSWEEK got an exclusive early look at a few of the sets, designed by Oscar-winning art director Stuart Craig. In 'Phoenix,' Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) must defend himself, and Hogwarts, from the fear-mongering restrictions of the wizarding government, the insidious Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Dolores Umbridge and the increasing power of Lord Voldemort, who is not only infiltrating the ministry with his followers, the Death Eaters, but invading Harry's mind as well. Craig has designed all five 'Potter' films, and says that one of the joys of creating a magical world is that 'time is of no consequence. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is part medieval, part Victorian. The kids dress in jeans and T shirts, like in 2007, but they're surrounded by 1950s technology. They go to school by steam train. All these things from different periods are sort of slammed together.' He's currently at work designing the sixth film, 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,' which begins shooting later this year.
