The Departed Review
This is the best film of the year.
When I first heard that they were re-making the Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs, I thought it would be a joke. But, seriously, Martin Scorsese did an amazing remake of this film, retitled "The Departed".
It's been a few years since I saw IA, I have to say that I had forgotten much of the story. When I got out of the theater, I went back to the original film to see what the differences were.
The ending's been changed, but pretty much the story remains intact for the remake.
Without giving away too much - the story is about two moles. One in the mafia and one in the police department. Both men (DiCaprio and Damon) are trying to discover the other.
The film took the story idea of Infernal Affairs and made it into their own vision - complete with new characters, locations, accents, and modernized/updated vision. It became an epic robbers and cops movie and then there is the amazing ending! A must see.
