The Los Angeles "Miami Vice" premiere brought out screaming fans, fellow celebrity supporters and the film's stars, Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx, Colin Farrell ("S.W.A.T."), Gong Li ("Memoirs of a Geisha") and Academy Award winning director Michael Mann.

Based on the 1980's TV action/drama, this update focuses on vice detectives Crockett and Tubbs as their respective personal and professional lives become dangerously intertwined.

Fans gathered outside cinema the were eager to get a look at the Farrell, who has emerged a new man after famously checking into rehab after collapsing at the film's wrap party in Uruguay last year.

The Irish actor, looked a picture of health as he briefly described the difference between the TV show and the film. "It's about two hours long and it's different. It's modernised it's a contemporary version of the same sensibility the show had but contemporary."

Co-star Jamie Foxx said he saw the vision for this film early on and was one of the director's fans who pushed to make this film.

"I just look at it like this. It's a Michael Mann joint," explained Foxx. "I told Michael Mann years ago, I said listen man, 'You've got to do 'Miami Vice.' I know you are critically acclaimed and you're the filmmaker. But 'Miami Vice' will give you a chance to have a commercial hit and at the same time you bring people to the world of Michael Mann."

Farrell noted how Mann consistently had the actors practicing real life stunts that were all related with the film.

"It got real, real. We shot live rounds or whatever like that," noted Foxx. "I'm trying to fly a plane. Imagine me trying to fly a plane? It got really on the edge so I think you feel that in the film."
